Okay, now what?

Are you planning on bringing the bird to a rescue ASAP or will it be staying with you for a period of time?  If you are simply going to bring the bird to me, a variety of options are available for temporary housing.  The easiest option is a simple cardboard box kept out of the elements.  This keeps the bird in a dark area which will limit stress and prevent them from thrashing around.  If you can't make it to a rescue quickly, a bird cage, dog kennel, cat carrier, laundry basket are also good options.  It is important to keep the bird indoors while awaiting a rescue service.  Equally important is keeping them closed in on all 6 sides.  Paper towels or cloth towels on the bottom can help keep them comfortable and absorb waste.

To feed or not to feed

If the bird looks healthy and is just lost, offering food and water is okay.  DO NOT feed a starving bird.

You are going to want to limit the amount of times you have to move the bird.  Stressing a bird that is already sick or tired can often be fatal.  This being said, plan on bringing them in whatever you chose for a temporary home.  I prefer when birds are brought to me but in many instances I can pick up birds.  Keep in mind I am located in Buxton, Maine.
